Dear Subscriber,
I forwarded to Tessa some of the zillions of responses to her last letter to this list. Incidentally, the Sierra Times published that letter:

She and I both want to thank all of those showing support. We're sorry that we don't have time to respond to every one individually, but here is a follow-up note from Tessa to all of you (see below).
Sincerely,
Larken Rose

I am deeply moved and humbled by the outpouring of support and praise in response to my letter. I feel so privileged to be in a position where so many people care what I think!
I just want to comment on a few things. Larken noted that a million people think he’s lucky to have me and one person thinks I’m lucky to have him (a slight exaggeration on his part). But I think I’ve told this list before, that for much of my life I was a philosophical, intellectual freedom-lover, reading book after book but never seeing a way to take action. Larken showed me the way to action - gave me an avenue to get my love of freedom out of my head and into the world where it could accomplish something. For that I am eternally grateful to him. Never in a thousand years could I have unravelled Title 26 on my own, but if Larken was “made” for this task, then I was “made” to support and inspire him in it.
I often wonder about men and women - what makes them different when it comes to fighting for a cause? What makes so many women hold their men back? Women certainly don’t lack courage - they have babies, after all! Are men simply more reckless and single-minded, while women are more focused on protecting what they have? Are women perhaps a little more rational, carefully weighing the risks against the odds of winning, while men just storm ahead because they’re RIGHT? Yes, I think that’s it. Preserving the integrity of homes and families is one way to preserve the future, a more female way, perhaps. But the more male way, raising your sword and riding into the fray, for a principle, against all odds - can change those odds, suddenly and dramatically.
I don’t mean to be sexist, of course. I know many of you ladies are riding into the fray, too. And perhaps some ladies are champing at the bit while their husbands say, “it’s just too risky, dear.” It just seems to be the other way around more often. And don’t for a moment think that I hold my home and family less dear than any other woman, as the government seeks to destroy my home and tear me away from those I love. But I choose to ride beside my husband into danger, to make the world better for my daughter. I thank you all so much for your kind words, support, and courageous examples.
